Walking Calories Calculator

Walking calories calculator

This calculator estimates the calories you burn walking, from your body weight, the minutes walked, and your pace. It uses standard MET values.

Enter your weight, minutes, and pace to see an estimate of calories burned.

What this result means

The estimate uses MET values. MET stands for metabolic equivalent of task, a standard way to describe how hard an activity is. Walking slowly is about 2.8 MET, a moderate walk about 3.5 MET, a brisk walk about 4.3 MET, and a very brisk walk about 5.0 MET.

The calculation is MET multiplied by 3.5, multiplied by your weight in kg, divided by 200, then multiplied by the minutes walked. This gives an approximate calorie figure.

Limits and when to see a doctor

MET figures are averages. Real energy use depends on your fitness, the terrain, hills, and how you carry yourself, so treat the number as approximate. The estimate ignores the calories you would have burned at rest in the same time. If you have a heart condition, joint pain, or you are new to exercise, check with a doctor before starting a walking routine. Stop if you feel chest pain, dizziness, or breathlessness.
